The cryptocurrencies

It is a decentralized digital currency, based on a validation principle for transactions or the issuance of the currency itself. It uses a system of “chain of blocks”, the blockchain to protect against digital counterfeiting.
Most cryptocurrencies are designed to create new units of currency and are based on technology, while placing a limit on the money supply that will eventually be in circulation. The goal is to mimic the scarcity and value of precious metals and to avoid hyperinflation.

The blockchain technology

The blockchain, or chain of blocks, is inseparable from bitcoin, the virtual currency created in 2008. It is in a way a decentralized and collectively controlled ledger, based on the peer-to-peer principle, from a distributed database.

It is the blockchain that ensures the security of transactions by pooling trust. A system renowned for its transparency and tamper-proof nature, whose scope extends far beyond currency alone.

Investing in the cryptocurrency

Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, created in 2008.
Bitcoin was trading at $972.25 USD on January 1, 2017, compared to nearly $17,000 USD at the end of 2017. Its value and high volatility are not linked to any underlying economic factors and are not the responsibility of any single entity. Today, there are more than 1,500 cryptocurrencies on the market. Millions of investors buy, sell, and trade these currencies to make profits. These are investments with varying degrees of risk. At the end of 2017, the first 20% risk-free futures contracts for investors appeared.

“Not so long ago, some experts argued that personal computers would never be adopted, and that tablets would only be used as expensive coffee trays. Therefore, I think it would be unwise to dismiss cryptocurrencies.”
